India Green registered their opening win in the ongoing Women's T20 Challenger Trophy as they trounced India Blue by seven wickets by VJD method in another rain-hit encounter in Alur on Wednesday (August 15). Set 83 after India Blue could manage just 82 in 17 overs, Priya Punia scored an unbeaten 46 to help her team polish off the chase in 15.4 overs.
Put in, India Blue struggled for momentum and it was Vanitha VR's 39-ball 35 that gave the bowlers something to work with. Mithali Raj scored 6 while Dayalan Hemalatha could manage just 9. Anuja Patil promised during her stay but offered a return catch to Jhulan Goswami in the 16th over to end any hopes of a late flourish.
Arundhati Reddy picked up two wickets while Krutika Chaudhari, Monikha Das and Goswami picked up a wicket each.
India Green were dented early when they lost Jemimah Rodrigues in the fifth over after a slow start. There wasn't much else from Monikha Das, Veda Krishnamurthy and Sajeevan Sajana but Punia carried the team on her shoulder to seal a win.
