3. First Tournament, The 1984 Asia Cup (otherwise called the Rothmans Asia Cup) was held in Sharjah, UAE, which was the area of the recently shaped Asian Cricket Council. The new competition was held between April 6– 13, in 1984 and three groups participated: India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. 

The 1984 Asia Cup was a round-robin competition where each group played the other once. India won the two its matches, winning the debut Cup. Sri Lanka came in second while Pakistan lost the two its matches.
